the good don't stayI blinked, shifted and cringed. My body was sore, my mind was cloudy and everything throbbed, especially my feet. I blinked a few more times. Goodness, my eyelids were heavy and my wrists itched—how scratchy the blanket upon my chest was! I took in a deep breath and tried to get past the blurriness.
"It looks like we have a survivor. How are you feeling?"
Turning my head, I saw a white coat, and as my eyes drifted up, there was a stethoscope, assorted pens stuffed inside a pocket, a clean-shaven chin and grey eyes. I opened my mouth, but closed it again, because my tongue was dry and I really didn't feel like talking to anyone. Honestly, I was awful at dying. Everything was trying to do me in, even myself, but I just wouldn't.
And then shame filled me when what I had done truly sunk in:
I could have died.
I wiggled my fingers—I was alive.
"How am I feeling?" I rasped as my old temper was aroused by the absurdity of the doctor's question. "I feel fine. Absolutely goddamn dandy. N

Phone-Call #1: February 18th, 1961"He—Hello?"
"Is this Miss Halliburton?"
"Who on earth is calling me at this time of night?"
"Guess."
"Excuse me?"

"I already knew that. Now why are you calling me in the middle of the night—and did I hear you say you're at a payphone?"
"Yes, there's one on the bottom floor of the hospital."

From me, to you.This week I've noticed a couple of people posting comments like "I will never be able to write like that" or "I wish I could write as well as you" and I wanted to quickly respond to them whilst its on my mind.
Firstly, I am no expert writer. I suffer with issues of punctuation, grammar, spelling, editing, stubbornness and pride.

But secondly, please remember that I am 25 years old and I have poems that I wrote when I was ten. That means I've been writing fifteen years. I have an archive of about 700 pieces. It's a lot. And the more words you write, the more words you will have written that have the potential to be amazing. Simple maths!
BUT I know this might sound like just words, so... from me to you, here is a poem I wrote in 1997, at the age of ten. You may laugh, point, pretend that it's amazing, whatever you like, but just remember that everyone starts somewhere, and everyone progresses beyond that if they try.

The LoraxOkay, so I found a tiny little theater near my town that was still playing the Lorax, because they get movies later than other theaters, and I went with like 4 of my friends to see it (I've gone 12 times) and then last time I went, at that one part where Oncie is digging through his wagon and shaking his ass, without even thinking I screamed "HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! DAT ASS!" and my friends were like ":iconpokerfacememeplz: and I was like "Uh... :iconbadpokerfaceplz:" and then like 8 people in the theater started making cat calls and screaming "woo!"
And then I did it again when he is shaking his ass and dancing, and several other people joined in xD

Since I'm having major writers block for TMITD but too much creative energy, I've channeled it into another project, at least temporarily.

Chasing Exemption

It's 1961, and to support herself and prepare for nursing school the subsequent fall, eighteen-year-old Holly Halliburton becomes a member of a very peculiar agency. They are called "The League of Bedside Sympathizers", or at least that is their official title, though nobody seems to know what it means nor where it originated. Her job? To provide solace and smooth the transition between life and death for hospital patients who have no living or reachable kin. Having successfully undergone four separate "transitions", serious, soft-spoken Holly feels as though she is prepared for anything the agency throws her way. That is, until she is thrust to the bedside of Simon Dalaigh, a melancholy, spirited and blunt young man dying from acute Cystic Fibrosis of the lungs. Their unusual circumstances eventually throw them together into a serendipitous roadtrip--a veritable scavenger hunt across Ireland to track down Simon's roots. As their joint yearning for liberation pulls them forward, it soon becomes clear that the transition between life and death might not be as simple as they had thought.

I get excited when you put up a new story,but I get super excited when it involves Ireland! XD I also like the way you did your research,since Ireland actually has the highest rate of Cystic Fibrosis in the world. Anyways, i can't wait to read this!
